Jazeman Jaafar looking for victories at Silverstone this
weekend

Jaafar is looking to take race victories at Silverstone circuit this weekend in the penultimate
round of the 2012 British F3 International Series. The young Malaysian lies in
third place in the Drivers’ Championship and with only 20 points separating him
from the leader, Carlin team mate Jack Harvey, Jaafar and second placed driver,
Puerto Rican Felix Serralles are all in with a chance of taking the
title.
Jaafar has visited the British F3 podium on
ten occasions from 22 race starts. His impressive form has put him in the thick
of the chase for the title and hungry for more race wins after his victories in
Pau, France and Rockingham, UK. He says of his chances at Silverstone, “It’s a
circuit I love racing on, as it is fast, flowing and has plenty of challenging
corners and I’ve had some good results there. British F3 has been a very open
championship this year and there are plenty of good drivers up against me, not
least my four team mates, so I have to give my best every time I’m in the
car.”
The PETRONAS Talent Programme driver adds,
“With only six races to go in the championship, there’s no time to lose in
getting more podiums and, ideally, race wins and I need more of these if I am to
come out on top. My first goal is to overhaul Felix, who is 16 points ahead of
me, then I’ll go after Jack who’s a further 4 points in the lead. It might sound
a lot of points, but there are 20 points on offer for a win, and another point
for fastest lap, so it’s an achievable goal. Of course the other two drivers are
also looking for the crown and we’re very closely matched on speed, pace and
competitive spirit, so it’s definitely going to be a tough
weekend.”
The Silverstone circuit layout used by the
British F3 Series is the same one used by the Formula 1 championship, with a
long lap of 3.66 miles (5.9 km). Jaafar says of the track configuration, “It’s
great that we race on exactly the same track as the F1 drivers, as we gain
experience for the future goal of being on the grid in the ultimate racing
series. “
The Silverstone round of the British F3
International Series takes place this weekend, 8-9th September. All the drivers
will have a chance to practice at the circuit on Friday, with qualifying on
Saturday morning. The first race will be in the afternoon at 3.15pm. On Sunday
the second race of the weekend takes place at 10.30am and the final race at
